Four Leaf Clover 'Marsilea hirsuta' is a unique semi-aquatic carpeting plant, native to the freshwater bogs of inland Australia. Due to its unique habitat in the wild, this plant can be grown successfully submerged in the aquarium, or emerged in a high humidity terrarium, paludarium, or vivarium.
Four Leaf Clovers are commonly used as an easy to grow carpeting plant in the foreground. Marsilea hirsuta emersed will develop into a four-leaf clover structure, while the submerged part will become more lobed and rounder. This plant is adored because of its round carpeting leaves that spread quickly through the substrate.
In the aquarium, 'Marsilea hirsuta' is an easy to care for plant that requires low to moderate light, low nutrient, and low CO2 supplementation. Four Leaf Clovers are ideal for small aquariums and large aquariums where foreground plants are needed.
This plant may be a fast grower in the aquarium and may require frequent pruning of the runners to keep it in its best health and shape.
