Dwarf Baby Tears, Hemianthus callitichoides is part of the Linderniaceae family of semi-aquatic plants. They are native to the Caribbean Islands in shallow freshwater pools where they reside between rocks and fallen vegetation. Due to its unique habitat in the wild, this plant can be grown successfully submerged in the aquarium, or emerged in a high humidity terrarium, paludarium, or vivarium.
Dwarf Baby Tears are commonly used as densely packed carpets in the foreground or grown in tufts attached to rock and driftwood. This plant is adored because of its small size, and bright green color. Hemianthus callitichoides grows best in a high nutrient substrate with that is rich in iron.
In the aquarium, 'Hemianthus callitichoides' is a moderate to care for plant that requires high light, high nutrient, and high CO2 supplementation. Dwarf Baby Tears are ideal for small aquariums, nano aquariums, shrimp tanks, terrariums, and paludariums.
Although this plant may be a moderately slow grower in the aquarium, with enough time and care it will begin to flourish and spread through runners.
