Cryptocoryne petchii ‘pink’ is part of the Cryptocoryne genus. These aquatic plants are native to slow, lowland forested riverbanks and streams of South-Eastern Asia.
In the aquarium, Cryptocorynes are sometimes referred to as Crypts or water trumpets. These plants do best when planted directly into the substrate. While water trumpets are very hardy aquarium plants that do well in a variety of water conditions, these plants are sensitive to drastic changes in water chemistry. When first planted in a new aquarium, this plant may shed its leaves known as “crypt melt” as it adjusts to its new environment. This behavior is normal and can be predicted, once acclimatized to its new living conditions it will again flourish and grow.
Petchii ‘pink’ is a small and compact plant that is adored because of its long and slim, dark green-brown leaves with vibrant violet undersides. This crypt is a relatively easy to care for plant that requires low to medium light and minimal fertilization or CO2 supplementation. Petchii ‘pink’ is ideal for small to large planted aquariums and aquascapes.
Although this plant may be a slow grower in the aquarium, with more co2 and plant fertilizer it is possible to produce more growth over time.
